Legislative News: On The Fast-Track

As of May 18th, 2022, Senate Bill No. 672 was signed, which is fantastic news for anyone who needs some form of training or education for their desired occupation.
Why? What is it?
This act modifies provisions for something called the Fast Track WorkForce Incentive Grant Program. This grant program is a new form of financial aid for people who either have some college credits, or are enrolling in college for the first time. This new program can be used to obtain a degree, certificate, or industry recognized credential in a position that is classified as high-need in Missouri.

Am I Eligible?
To qualify for the Fast Track Grant, you must meet the following requirements.
- Missouri resident.
- 25 years old or older, or have not been enrolled in school for the last two years.
- Have not reached a bachelor’s degree.
- Must enroll for at least half-time.
- If filing jointly, income cannot exceed $80,000 per year.
- If filing independently, income cannot exceed $40,000 per year.
What Are the Grant Requirements?
The requirements for this grant during your enrollment must be followed to continue use.
- Maintain an average of at least a 2.5 grade point average.
- You must go to school at one of the approved institutions, which we will get to shortly.
- Achieve qualifying employment in Missouri within one year of graduation.
- Maintain the above mentioned employment for a minimum of three years.
- Maintain Missouri residency.
- A third of the total amount given from the grant will remain for each year of employment and Missouri residency.
What Are Missouri’s Workforce Needs?
The Fast Track Workforce Incentive grant is designed to help fulfill high-need job openings in Missouri. According to MERIC, the following occupations are some of the most needed employees.
- Secretaries and administrative
- Laborers and freight, stock, and material movers.
- Registered nurses and nursing assistants.
- General and operations managers.
- Childcare workers.
- Bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks.
What Does It Cover?
When combined with other governmental financial aid, the Fast Track grant is designed to cover any tuition and fees not covered by your financial aid.
If your financial aid already covers all of your expenses, you may be eligible to receive a reward of up to $500 to pay for other education related expenses.
How Do I Apply for the Grant?
Are you ready to enroll in college? To attend school using the grant, follow these steps.
- First, choose one of the eligible academic programs which you can find here.
- Once you’ve chosen a school, submit your college application.
- Be sure to complete a FAFSA form for each year that you are enrolled.
- Create a state student financial aid login.
- Complete the Fast Track application which should be located within the financial aid portal.
- Read through and finalize your self certification form.
